A Word From God

Luke 5:1  And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God...

Notice in this passage that the people pressed to hear the Word of God!

   a.) we have more people depressed by their circumstances, oppressed by the devil because we have too few who are willing to press to hear the Word!

   b.) PRESS: to urge, to constrain, to compel, to force into service

A.) the Word has the answer!

B.) the Word has the power!

   a.) quick/ alive; O sure it’s ink on paper but when it comes from the Mouth of God into the heart of man it is alive! When it returns to the heart of the Father from the mouth of man it is alive!

Romans 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth...

(healing, deliverance, soundness, wholeness, prosperity etc.)

When the bills are past due we must press to hear the Word!

When the Dr. has bad news we must press to hear the Word!

When divorce papers are on the kitchen table we must press to hear the Word!

When our kids are on drugs we must press to hear the Word!

Proverbs 8:34  Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

Ecclesiastes 5:1  Walk prudently when you go to the house of God; and draw near to hear rather than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they do evil.

James 1:19  Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak...

Romans 10:17  So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

MARK 4:24 And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.

   a.) what you hear (public opinion, aunt Nancy, news propaganda)

   b.) because what you hear will either build your faith or your fear

ALL YOU NEED IS A WORD FROM GOD!

Matthew 14: 27.  But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

 28.  And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.

 29.  And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

   a.) what did Peter need to walk on water? a jet ski? floating shoes?

ALL HE NEEDED WAS A WORD FROM GOD STAND ON!  (that’s all you need too!)

Jesus:

Luke 4:17.  And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written....

20.  And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

 21.  And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

   a.) He found a Word from God to stand on! Top base His life and ministry upon!

Luke 10: 38.  Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.

 39.  And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.

 40.  But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.

 41.  And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:

 42.  But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
